FAREWELL TO THE LION

My father will be remembered and missed by many. He was the person his person his family turned to as a source of guidance. My belief is that his natural leadership ability led him to become a teacher, which exemplified his spirit of service to others and his intellect.

He was a dedicated family man who always put his children first. His greatest lesson to me was to value my friends and keep in mind what is truly important in life. Some other values he taught me were to be proud; prioritize education; and have perseverance. He held a strong moral code and encouraged me and my siblings to do likewise. His faith helped him get through hard times; it was a small miracle he was able to rear several willful, wild kids and deal with my aloof stepmom at the same time.

Further regarding the sacred and celestial, to me he was the personification of Leo the Lion, his zodiacal symbol: confident, courageous, energetic, generous, resilient, sincere, and a bit stubborn. He disliked it when I would dissent from him, but he was very loyal and caring.

One of his favorite habits was keeping a list of proverbs in the kitchen. Even at home, he couldn’t resist the need to teach! He would try to make friends with everyone and he highly treasured peace. It says a lot about a man when even his enemies admire and respect him. He was the last of his kind.
