Penny Witcher Obituary

Penny C. Witcher, 62, of South Easton, MA, departed this life on October 7, 2018 after a two year battle with cancer.  Penny was born in Honolulu, HI on May 26, 1956, daughter of the late Theodore Cochran and Phyllis Arthur Cochran.

Penny is survived by her daughter, Rebecca DeAguiar and husband Jonathan, of South Easton, MA; by her son Joshua Linhorst of West Bridgewater, MA; her youngest son Thomas Witcher of Portland, ME; by her three grandchildren Genesis DeAguiar, Ezra DeAguiar and Silas DeAguiar of South Easton; by her brother Thomas Cochran of Lynch Station, VA; by her sister Carolyn Hedrick of Lynch Station, VA; by her sister Sandra George of Big Springs, WV; by nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Penny was a Christian and active member of Bridgewater United Methodist Church for many years.  She was a retired veteran of the US Navy last stationed at South Weymouth Naval Base in Newport, MA.  Penny was a Jr. ROTC teacher at Durfee High School in Fall River, MA for ten years.  She also worked as a substitute teacher in the East Bridgewater school system for several years.  Penny was a 1973 graduate of Gretna High School in Gretna, VA and graduate of Bridgewater State University.

Penny loved to sing and passed her love of music to both her sons.  She loved sitting outside and enjoying nature and had a real passion for helping others.  She had a special kind of empathy for people in need.  She was a care taker for many people over the years.  She enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her friends and family in VA and MA.  Penny was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.  A loving and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, teacher, mentor and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 12:45 PM Friday, October 26, 2018 at Bourne National Veterans’ Cemetery in Bourne, MA.  There will be a celebration of her life immediately following at the VFW located at 148 Allen Rd.
