James W. Bibby Sr., 88 years old, longtime resident of Brockton, MA, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday September 16, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Shirley M. (MaDan) Bibby for 58 years. Born in Hingham, MA, he was the son of the late George M. Bibby Sr., and Florence (Manell) Bibby.
James attended Hingham High School and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific as a Gunner & Seabee. He worked at the Quincy Water Department during the early 1940s. In the 1950s, he worked at Dartmouth Shoe where he met his wife Shirley. He spent 32 years at BPH/Shaws Supermarkets and retired at the age of 65. Jim enjoyed camping with his children, hunting, scuba diving, and was a member of the Holbrook Gun Club.
He is survived by his children: Karen J. Bibby of Brockton, James W. Bibby Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Raynham, Michael E. Bibby and his wife Donna of Buzzards Bay, Thomas E. Bibby and his wife Tammy of E. Bridgewater, Kenneth W. Bibby and his companion Tara Smart of Brockton, Joseph W. Bibby and his wife Melissa of Hanson, Jean L. (Bibby) Kadis and her husband Charles of Bridgewater. He is the brother of the late George M. Bibby Jr., Carol Hasse, Marion Durling, Florence Birchby, Marjorie Ferrigno, and is survived by his sister Constance Rossini and 12 grandchildren; Stephanie (Bibby) MacDonald, Jennifer L. Bibby, Kristen (Bibby) Essex, Michelle (Bibby) DiPietro, Colleen N. Bibby, Kimberly A. Bibby, Alyssa C. Bibby, Kaitlyn M. Kadis, Rebecca R. Kadis, Michael K. Bibby, Joseph D. Bibby, and Stella L. Bibby.
Visiting hours will be held in the Sampson-Hickey-Grenier Funeral Home, 309 Main St., Brockton, MA, on Tuesday 4-8pm and 9-10am Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 10am Wednesday. Internment will be at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.
